The Life of Alcatraz App

CINCINNATI, OHIO

University of Cincinnati  |  2012

This app was created to tell the transformational story of Alcatraz Island. In the last 200 years, the island has transitioned from simple beginnings as Costanoan Indian land, to a navel base, and then to its most memorable state as a federal prison. The island also transitioned into a Native American occupation site after the prison had been shut down for many years. Today, Alcatraz Island is a national park and wildlife preserve full of beautiful native plants and animals. Additionally, it is also a place where visitors from all over the world are able to explore the island's rich history.

The purpose of creating this app was intended as an informational guide for those who are planning on visiting the island, or for those who wanted to learn more about the island after visiting.
